Wheatlands Community Care for the Aged in Randfontein, Gauteng, is a community-run volunteer group caring for the elderly. This non-profit organisation was founded in 2016 to assist the less fortunate in their community. The Wheatlands centre needed a fire detection system to meet safety requirements and obtain certification as a registered care home for the elderly.
The International Association of Lions Clubs is a global service network that aids local communities worldwide. The Lions Club Krugersdorp reached out to Technoswitch in August 2021 to assist with the installation of a fire detection system at the Wheatlands care centre.
Technoswitch donated the fire detection products needed for the project, while Indu-Clean International, an installer Technoswitch can always rely on to support a worthy cause, sponsored the system’s installation.
Indu-Clean completed a site audit, and since the building is a standard single-story layout, a single Technoswitch ORYX 8-zone conventional fire alarm control panel, offering an event log for traceability, was deemed suitable. The cost-effective SensoMAG detectors and manual call points were installed in all required areas, including the kitchen, dining room, and living room areas. To ensure that hearing and visually impaired individuals can either see or hear the alarm signal during an emergency, VTB Spatial sounder/beacons were installed as warning devices.
The installation was completed in October 2021, and Wheatlands centre now has round-the-clock fire protection while they continue serving and supporting the elderly in their community. With this solution in place, the centre can rest assured that its residents, staff, and property are fully protected.
